Could probably get an extra one, but might be better to keep this in reserve in case we don't make the deadline on some other station. VPI and USC still need to do SF424. Vaults should ship July 31. Boards are being built. Will start replacing K2's late next week. Then start work on vaults, then go like gang busters on the new ones. Also continuing with construction of Regional Processing Center in Memphis. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Celebi presented results of Structures Subcommittee. This subcommittee is gathering a list of structures from throughout the region that will eventually be 15 to 20 (small number to conform with 1188). Subcommittee is following COSMOS recommendations from Emeryville workshop. There was considerable discussion on this topic. Concern was voiced that while 1/3 of the total ANSS 1188 budget was intended for structures, little or no money has been allocated for it. Discussions ensued about the need to prioritize based on authorized vs appropriated funds. Several on the RAC voiced opinions that if structures are instumented, smaller ones should be chosen due to budgetary concerns. The RAC strongly believes that unique structures should not be instrumented but rather typical structures should be chosen. The RAC also recommends that only structures in the highest hazard areas of the region should be chosen in order to increase the likelihood of collecting data. Rule of thumb for building instrumentation: $4k/channel. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Out year deliberations National Backbone Regional Instrumentation BB Urban SM Structures System Implementation E&O Fact Sheets, PIO Discussion on dedicating the year to USNSN backbone Discussion on dedicating the year to Regional BB Implementation philosophy Each year choose target city for focus. Following year infill. Fill in gaps (geographic). Need to deviate from 1188 by reducing USM in 1188 cities and include more cities. Need broad regional coverage rather than a dense, trinet style, coverage in a few metro areas (e.g. combine hazmap with greater than 100k?). ANSS representation at Fall 2004 National Earthquake Conference (Wilkinson). Assoc of State Geol. (esp. CUSEC) to assist in siting (esp. USNSN) and possibly as much as possible more than siting.
